1. What is Telehealth?
Telehealth is the delivery of healthcare services through electronic communications, including live video conferencing, secure messaging, and telephone consultations. At EnnHealth Psychiatry, we use HIPAA-compliant telehealth platforms to provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, therapy sessions, and follow-up care.
Telehealth allows you to receive high-quality psychiatric care from the comfort of your home, office, or any private location with internet access.
2. Benefits of Telehealth
- Access to psychiatric care regardless of geographic location (available in 30+ states)
- Reduced travel time and associated costs
- Flexible scheduling including evening appointments
- Continuity of care when traveling or relocating
- Comfort of receiving care in a familiar, private environment
- Reduced exposure to illness in waiting rooms
3. Risks and Limitations
While telehealth offers many advantages, you should be aware of the following risks and limitations:
- Technology failures: Internet connectivity issues, software glitches, or hardware malfunctions may interrupt or prevent a session. If a session is interrupted, your provider will attempt to reconnect or contact you by phone.
- Security risks: While we use encrypted, HIPAA-compliant platforms, no electronic communication is completely secure. There is a small risk of interception by unauthorized parties.
- Clinical limitations: Some conditions may require in-person evaluation. Your provider will refer you to in-person care if telehealth is not clinically appropriate.
- Emergency limitations: Telehealth is not suitable for emergencies. If you are in crisis, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
- Prescribing limitations: Certain controlled substances may have additional requirements or restrictions for telehealth prescribing under state and federal law.
4. Your Rights
As a telehealth patient, you have the right to:
- Receive the same quality of care as in-person visits
- Refuse telehealth services at any time without affecting your right to future care
- Request an in-person referral if you prefer face-to-face evaluation
- Know who is present during your telehealth session (no hidden observers)
- Have your telehealth sessions treated with the same confidentiality as in-person visits
- Access your medical records as outlined in our Privacy Policy
5. Your Responsibilities
To ensure the best telehealth experience, you agree to:
- Private environment: Be in a quiet, private location where you can speak freely without being overheard
- Reliable technology: Use a device with a camera, microphone, and stable internet connection
- Identification: Be prepared to verify your identity at the start of each session
- Location disclosure: Inform your provider of your physical location at the start of each session (required for licensing and emergency purposes)
- No recording: Do not record telehealth sessions without prior written consent from your provider
- No driving: Do not participate in telehealth sessions while driving or operating machinery
- Emergency plan: Have access to a phone to call 911 if needed during a session
6. Emergency Protocols
EnnHealth Psychiatry is NOT an emergency service. If you are experiencing a medical or psychiatric emergency, immediately call 911, go to your nearest emergency room, or call the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
During your intake, your provider will collect emergency contact information and your physical address. This information is used to dispatch emergency services to your location if your provider determines you are in imminent danger during a session.
7. Confidentiality
All telehealth sessions are confidential and protected by the same laws that apply to in-person visits, including HIPAA and applicable state privacy laws. Exceptions to confidentiality include:
- Imminent risk of harm to yourself or others
- Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or vulnerable adult
- Court orders or legal mandates
- As otherwise required by law
8. Technical Requirements
For optimal telehealth sessions, we recommend:
- A computer, tablet, or smartphone with a camera and microphone
- A stable internet connection (minimum 5 Mbps recommended)
- A current web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge)
- A quiet, well-lit, private room
- Headphones or earbuds for additional privacy
9. Fees and Billing
Telehealth services are billed at the same rate as in-person visits. Most insurance plans cover telehealth psychiatric services. For patients on our Direct Psychiatry Care (DPC) membership, telehealth visits are included in your plan. See our Terms of Service for full payment details.
10. Consent
By scheduling and attending a telehealth appointment with EnnHealth Psychiatry, you acknowledge that:
- You have read and understand this Telehealth Informed Consent
- You understand the benefits, risks, and limitations of telehealth
- You consent to receiving psychiatric services via telehealth
- You may withdraw consent at any time by notifying your provider
- Your consent applies to all future telehealth sessions unless revoked in writing
