What Your BCBS Plan Typically Covers
BlueCross BlueShield plans are required to provide mental health parity, meaning your psychiatric benefits are comparable to your medical and surgical benefits. Here is what most BCBS plans cover:
- Initial psychiatric evaluation: Covered as a specialist visit with your standard specialist copay.
- Medication management: Follow-up visits covered at in-network rates, typically 20-30 minutes.
- Telehealth visits: BCBS covers telehealth psychiatry at in-network rates. No separate facility fee.
- Prescription medications: Covered through your BCBS pharmacy benefit. Formulary varies by local plan.
